A Use For This Journal Appears!
Jul. 24th, 2009 04:49 pmIn trying to get a title and subtitle for Wufei's journal, I noticed that most--if not all--of the online translations for Gundam Wing image songs are horrible. And by horrible I mean they're incoherent, nonsensical grammatical monsters.
I was peeved enough to dig up my old red binder full of Gundam Wing reference material out of the basement--I happen to have printed copies of some very nice, somewhat poetic English translations of most of the Gundam Wing songs... translations that are actually regularly coherent. They're not perfect (in fact, sometimes the translations are a little silly) and they're not my translations (I don't know whose they are), but I really don't think I could do a better job without using them and I think the fandom needs to have them back, if only as a point of comparison.
I have removed the odd word or two on linguistic grounds ("then that is the justice" is the same as "then that is justice," just saner, I get the feeling some of the translaters might have spoken Japanese as their first language) and fixed what appear to be a couple of spacing errors, and while I feel a little bad about altering them, the point is to make them accessable, not provide a perfect transcription of some lyrics found on the internet seven years ago. If this offends anyone, let me know and I'll un-alter them, but since I am not actually changing a lot of things (including things that could probably stand to be changed if my purposes were different), I'm just gonna try to be as accurate and coherent as simultaneously possible. Removed words will be noted in a parenthesis, for your... enjoyment or something, I don't know.
I'll be posting these at a rate of maybe one or two a day, although I'm kicking off with all three of Wufei's image songs because, in all honesty, Wufei has always been my favourite.
Anyway, here they are:
Let Into Top
In the darkness, solitude awakens
Endless journey
We shall meet again some day
Wound that has started hurting will not forget
Every time I turn around
The answers held in those hands
My shadow looking down at me
Everyone dreams and starts to speak
Of the place to return to
I want to keep walking
Looking only ahead to the darkness
Fighting
Will give me the answers
The shout repeating in my heart
Let into top--searching
Not for tomorrow
But to live through today
Let into top--while searching
For my own life
To make sure of only one thing
Let into Top--more than a prayer
More than a hopeless wish
To get through the present
Let into Top--climb to the top
Each time I win strength
My life sets on fire
Knock on Morning's Door
Flash back! The sparking breeze
Flash back! Running through nthe world
Don't stop! Don't look back
Don't stop! No one can stop me
Betting the pride that only I understand
I live, playing even with my own life
More than the thread in front of our eyes
We pursue the dangerous game
We are knocking on the door to a faraway tomorrow
Flash back! For whose benefit
Flash back! Does the world turn?
Don't stop! There is no answer
Don't stop! So we go searching for it
On the nights when I am embraced only by solitude
I count the stars until dawn
My eyes are dyed red
by the leaping flames
I chase the dream that twinkles
with silver wings
Exposing my heart to the wind called freedom
I rise to the sky
faster than light Oh Yeah!
More than the dream in front of our eyes
We pursue the dangerous game
We are knocking on the door to a faraway tomorrow
Grasp the Truth
What do they believe in
What are they searching for
As people live
Nobody sees it and
Stand there, without moving, at night
A person who sneers at himself
'I don't even have a dream'
Is a loser with nowhere to go
Something that burns furiously in my mind
I'll go, if it is the truth
I would only fight, even if I was hurt to the end
I would only grasp it, if I believe in and am searching for it
If it doesn't collapse even if I ask it questions
Then that is (the) justice
I am surely feeling it
Live through today
I am not making a fool of it
Because I cannot speak about tomorrow
If I could put something like 'courage' or 'love'
Into (the) words,
I can make an excuse for a resignation
Something that shines is in my heart
Raise a sword in my mind over the head
Hesitation and (the) fear make the darkness
Risky battle even one second is fatal to my life
I will not die
As long as the soldier's blood continues to flow in me
I would only fight even though I was hurt to the end
I would only grasp it, if I believe in and am searching for it
If it doesn't collapse even if I ask it questions
Then that is (the) justice
...this one actually has credit at the end.
